Dorchester Women's Safety Network

Brookview established the Dorchester Women’s Safety Network (DWSN) with funding from the U.S. Dept of Justice Office on Violence against Women. This Network is a unique opportunity for community-based organizations to address the critical needs of victims of domestic violence in a manner that affirms a victim’s culture and effectively addresses language and communication barriers.
DWSN is an innovative community partnership that increases availability of and improves the overall effectiveness of culturally and linguistically specific services for victims of domestic violence, dating violence, stalking and sexual assault. The Network offers linguistically and culturally specific transitional housing, medical services, legal advocacy, counseling, safety planning, case management, childcare, housing search and placements, financial literacy and life skills workshops.
Success Stories
Shamieka is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts-Amherst.
"I assumed Brookview would be like all the other shelters we lived in and that nothing would change, but I was wrong.
Drug and domestic abuse, and homelessness could have been leading factors in who I would become. But being a part of Brookview allowed me to place my future into perspective. Graduating high school was no easy feat, but the staff and members of Brookview were there every step of the way making sure I stayed on track. I lived in many different shelters, and not one compares to the experience I obtained while at Brookview. Brookview House became so much more than a homeless shelter, it became my home."
